THE GRAND CANAL COMPANY (REVISION OF CHARGES) ORDER, 1927.

THE GRAND CANAL COMPANY (REVISION OF CHARGES) ORDER, 1927.

THE GRAND CANAL COMPANY (REVISION OF CHARGES) ORDER, 1927, DATED 4th MAY, 1927, MADE BY THE MINISTER FOR INDUSTRY AND COMMERCE UNDER THE STATUTORY UNDERTAKINGS (CONTINUANCE OF CHARGES) (No. 2) ACT, 1923 .

WHEREAS it appears to the Minister for Industry and Commerce (hereinafter called " the Minister ") that, owing to changes in the cost of labour or materials or other circumstances affecting the undertaking, the powers of charging effected by the Order dated the 8th September, 1920, relating to the Grand Canal Company, are excessive for the purposes for which modifications of charging powers may be authorised under the Harbours, Docks and Piers (Temporary Increase of Charges) Act, 1920 ;

And whereas the Minister has pursuant to section 51 (3) of the Railways Act, 1924 (No. 29 of 1924), referred the matter to the Railway Tribunal, and the Railway Tribunal has reported thereon :—

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by the Statutory Undertakings (Continuance of Charges) (No. 2) Act, 1923 , the Minister hereby orders as follows :—

1. The Order dated the 8th day of September, 1920, relating to the Grand Canal Company, shall cease to have effect after the 31st day of May, 1927.

2. (a) On and from the 1st day of June, 1927, the maximum rates, tolls, dues and charges to be charged in respect of the above-mentioned Undertaking shall be the rates, tolls, dues and charges specified in the Schedule hereto.

Provided that any such rate or charge of the above-mentioned Company specified in Part I. of the said Schedule shall, subject to any statutory maxima be increased by 4 per cent. and subject to any statutory maxima be further increased by 10 per cent. before the additions specified in Part I. of the said Schedule shall be made thereto.

(b) If any increased rate, toll, due or charge made in pursuance of this clause of this Order includes a fraction of one penny, the fraction, if less than one half-penny, shall not be charged, or if the fraction amounts to one half-penny, but is less than one penny, it shall be charged as one penny.

3. This Order shall have effect during the continuance of the Statutory Undertakings (Continuance of Charges) (No. 2) Act, 1923 , and may be cited as the Grand Canal Company (Revision of Charges) Order, 1927.

SCHEDULE.

PART I.

Description of Merchandise, Etc. Rates and Charges is be Charged in Respect of Merchandise when Conveyed by the Company.

The rates and charges in operation on 31st July, 1920, with the undermentioned additions thereto :—

Coal, Coke and Patent Fuel

100 per cent. plus a flat rate of 3d. per ton, irrespective of distance, subject to a maximum addition of 6/- per ton.

Merchandise (other than Coal, Coke and Patent Fuel) in Classes A and B of the General Railway Classification.

100 per cent. plus a flat rate of 4d. per ton, irrespective of distance.

Merchandise in Classes C and 1-5 of the General Railway Classification.

100 per cent. plus a flat rate of 6d. per ton, irrespective of distance.

Returned Empties

100 per cent.

EXCEPTION.

Manure in bulk for use as agricultural manure in Saorstát Eireann in Class A

}

50 per cent. plus a flat rate of 4d. per ton

Manure in bulk, basic slag and lime in bulk for use as agricultural manure in Saorstát Eireann in Class B.

Manure packed and lime packed for use as agricultural manure in Saorstát Eireann in Class C in loads of 2 tons and upwards.

PART II.

Tolls, Dues and Charges to be Charged.

The tolls, dues and charges in opration on the 31st July, 1920, with an addition thereto of 100 per cent.

Provided that the revised maximum charges shall not in any case be less than the statutory maximum charges applicable to the undertaking.
