INLAND WRITTEN TELEGRAMS.


The Telegraph (Inland Written Telegram) Amendment (No. 1) Warrant, dated 30th July, 1928.

I, Ernest Blythe, T.D., Minister for Finance, and Minister for Posts and Telegraphs, Saorstát Eireann, do, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Telegraph Acts, 1863 to 1928, and of every other power enabling me in this behalf, hereby order, direct, and declare as follows:—

1. This Warrant shall be read as one with the Telegraph (Inland Written Telegram) Regulations, 1920, dated 31st August, 1920, and hereinafter called "the Principal Warrant."

2. On and from the date when this Warrant comes into operation the following Regulation shall be substituted for Regulation 2 of the Principal Warrant:—

"2.—(1) There shall be charged and paid for the transmission of every telegram the following sums, that is to say:—

(i) If the length of the telegram does not exceed twelve words, 1/6d.

(ii) If the length of the telegram exceeds twelve words, 1/6d. for the first twelve words and one penny for every additional word.

(2) In respect of every telegram handed in for transmission on Christmas Day, Good Friday, or Sunday, there shall be charged and paid an additional sum of 6d."

3. Regulation 2 of the Principal Warrant is hereby repealed as from the date on which this Warrant comes into operation.

4. On and from the date when this Warrant comes into operation the following Regulation shall be substituted for Regulation 17 of the Principal Warrant:—

"The sender of a telegram may pay for the transmission of a reply thereto the same sum as would be paid for an ordinary telegram of the same length, provided that the sum so paid by the sender shall in no case be less than 1/6d. or exceed 4/6d."

5. Regulation 17 of the Principal Warrant is hereby repealed as from the date on which this Warrant comes into operation.

6. On and from the date when this Warrant comes into operation the following Regulation shall be substituted for Regulation 20 of the Principal Warrant:—

"A telegram may at the request of the sender be delivered at several addresses within the limits of the free delivery of the Terminal Telegraph Office, and in such case there shall be charged and paid for the delivery of the telegram at each address after the first the sum of 4d."

Thus

A message of ten words of text and the following addresses (which contain twelve words):—

Walsh, Waterford.

Curran, Waterford.

Power, Waterford.

O'Dwyer, Waterford.

Clery, Waterford.

Ryan, Waterford,

will be charged thus:—

22 words in text and addresses, 2/4d.; 5 copies at 4d. each, 1/8d. Total 4s.

7. Regulation 20 of the Principal Warrant is hereby repealed as from the date on which this Warrant comes into operation.

8. On and from the date when this Warrant comes into operation Regulation 25 of the Principal Warrant shall be altered as follows:—

In Sub-section 1 (b):—

Substitute the words "Saorstát Eireann" for the words "The United Kingdom".

Substitute the words "Dundrum, Dublin," and "Dundrum, Tipperary," for the words "Sutton, Cambs," and "Sutton, Sussex".

Substitute the words "Dún Laoghaire" for the words "Melton Mowbray".

Substitute the words "Miltown Malbay" for the words "Chalfont St. Giles".

Substitute the words "Limerick Junction" for the words "Sandal and Walton".

Substitute the words "Dolphin's Barn" for the words "Upper Holloway" and the words "Haroldville Terrace, Dolphin's Barn" for the words "Junction Road, Upper Holloway".

Substitute the words "Westland Row" for the words "Ludgate Hill".

Omit the words "Charing Cross (whether referring to the part of a town or to the Railway Station)".

Substitute the words "Dolphin's Barn (a district in a town)" for the words "Upper Holloway (a district in a town)".

Substitute the words "St. Luke's" for the words "St. Pancras".

In Sub-section 1 (d) omit the words "thus Sunshine Fen London counts as two words".

In Sub-section 1 (e) (iii):—

Substitute the words "Dublin Postal Districts, e.g., N.E., S.W." for the words "London Postal Districts, e.g., E.C., S.W."

Omit Section 1 (e) (iv).

9. On and from the date when this Warrant comes into operation Regulation 32 (2) shall be read as though for the fixed charge of 1s. a fixed charge of 1/6d. had been inserted.

10. On and from the date when this Warrant comes into operation Regulation 39 (1) of the Principal Warrant shall read as though the words "Saorstát Eireann" had been substituted for the words "the United Kingdom".

11. This Warrant may be cited as "the Telegraph (Inland Written Telegram) Amendment (No. 1) Warrant 1928."

12. This Warrant shall come into operation on the First day of August, 1928.
