DEPARTMENT OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND PUBLIC HEALTH.

THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT (TEMPORARY PROVISIONS) ACT, 1923 .

The Prisons (Ireland) Act, 1826 (Adaptation) Order, 1932.

No. P. 99, 611/1931.

WHEREAS section 48 of the Prisons (Ireland) Act, 1826, as adapted by the Local Government (Adaptation of Irish Enactments) Order, 1898, and as applied by the General Prisons (Ireland) Act, 1877, is an existing enactment within the meaning of section 20 of the Local Government (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1923 :

AND WHEREAS the said section 48 of the Prisons (Ireland) Act, 1826, in so far as it relates to the disposal of old gaols and prisons for use as workhouses relates to matters dealt with or affected by the Local Government (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1923 :

AND WHEREAS it appears to the Minister for Local Government and Public Health necessary or expedient for carrying into effect the Local Government ( Temporary Provisions) Act, 1923, and the County Schemes made thereunder to make the adaptation hereinafter appearing in the said section 48 of the Prisons (Ireland) Act, 1826:

NOW, THEREFORE, the Minister for Local Government and Public Health, in exercise of the powers vested in him by section 20 of the Local Government (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1923 , does by this his Order, order as follows, that is to say:—

1. This Order may be cited as the Prisons (Ireland) Act, 1826 (Adaptation) Order, 1932.

2. Section 48 of the Prisons (Ireland) Act, 1826, as adapted by the Local Government (Adaptation of Irish Enactments) Order, 1898, shall, for the purposes thereof and for the purposes of its application by the Prisons (Ireland) Act, 1877, be and is hereby adapted in the manner and to the extent necessary to enable any old or disused gaol or prison to be disposed of thereunder for use as a county home, hospital or other institution authorised to be provided by a poor law authority under a county scheme confirmed or amended by or in pursuance of the Local Government (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1923 .
