| | TRADE BOARDS (HANDKERCHIEF AND HOUSEHOLD PIECE GOODS) ORDER, 1935.
|
| | The Trade Boards (Handkerchief and Household Piece Goods) Order, 1935, applying the Trade Boards Acts, 1909 and 1918, to the Handkerchief and Household Piece Goods Trade and for such purpose varying the Trade Boards (Linen and Cotton Embroidery) Order, 1913, and the Trade Boards (Linen and Cotton Handkerchief and Household Goods and Linen Piece Goods) Order, 1920, and further varying the Trade Boards (Laundry) Order, 1919, made by the Minister for Industry and Commerce on the 11th day of February, 1935, pursuant to sub-section (2) of Section 1 and sub-section (1) of Section 2 of the Trade Boards Act, 1918.

| | WHEREAS it is enacted by sub-section (2) of Section 1 of the Trade Boards Act, 1918, that the Minister for Industry and Commerce may make a special order applying the Trade Boards Acts, 1909 and 1918, to any specified trade to which they do not at the time apply if he is of opinion that no adequate machinery exists for the effective regulation of wages throughout the trade, and that accordingly, having regard to the rates of wages prevailing in the trade, or any part of the trade, it is expedient that the said Acts should apply to that trade:

| | AND WHEREAS it is enacted by sub-section (1) of Section 2 of the Trade Boards Act, 1918, that every special order may be varied or revoked by a subsequent special order:

| | AND WHEREAS the Trade Boards Acts, 1909 and 1918, do not apply to the trade specified in the schedule to this order except as regards such processes or operations as are specified in the Trade Boards (Linen and Cotton Embroidery) Order, 1913 (a,) and in the Trade Boards (Laundry) Order, 1919 (b,) as varied by the Trade Boards (Linen and Cotton Handkerchief and Household Goods and Linen Piece Goods) Order, 1920 (c,) and in the last mentioned order:

| | (a) Scheduled to, and confirmed by, 3-4 G.5. c.cl. xii.
|
| | (b) S. R. and O., 1919, No. 411.
|
| | (c) S. R. and O., 1920, No. 103.
|
| | AND WHEREAS the Minister for Industry and Commerce is of opinion that no adequate machinery exists for the effective regulation of wages throughout that part of the trade specified in the schedule to this order to which the Trade Boards Acts, 1909 and 1918, have not been applied by the said orders of 1919 and 1920, and that accordingly, having regard to the rates of wages prevailing in that part of such trade, it is expedient that the said Acts of 1909 and 1918 should apply to that part of such trade:

| | NOW, THEREFORE, the Minister for Industry and Commerce in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sub-section (2) of Section 1 of the Trade Boards Act, 1918, and sub-section (1) of Section 2 of the said Act and of every and any other power him in this behalf enabling hereby makes a special order that from and after the 1st day of April, 1935, the following provisions shall have effect, that is to say:—

| | 1. The Trade Boards Acts, 1909 and 1918 shall apply to the trade specified in the schedule to this Order.
|
| | 2. The Trade Boards (Linen and Cotton Embroidery) Order, 1913, and the Trade Boards (Laundry) Order, 1919, as varied by the Trade Boards (Linen and Cotton Handkerchief and Household Goods and Linen Piece Goods) Order, 1920, and the last mentioned order are hereby varied by the exclusion therefrom of any processes or operations comprised therein, which are included in the schedule to this Order.

| | 3. This Order may be cited for all purposes as the Trade Boards (Handkerchief and Household Piece Goods) Order, 1935.
|

SCHEDULE.
|
| | The Handkerchief and Household Piece Goods Trade, that is to say:—The making of such articles as are specified in (a) and (b) below, from linen, cotton, silk or other materials, excluding paper, rubberised material and American oil cloth, viz.:—
|
| | (a) Handkerchiefs (including Mufflers and Scarves);
|
| | (b) Bed-linen, Bed-spreads, Towels, Dusters, Table-napery, Tea-cloths, Table-centres, Sideboard-covers, Cushion-covers, or similar household articles;
|
| | including all or any of the following operations:—
|
| | (i) hooking, cutting or tearing the material;
|
| | (ii) vice-folding;
|
| | (iii) machine-hemming, hem-stitching, spoking, overlocking, tambouring, button-holing, and other plain or fancy machine stitching;
|
| | (iv) all processes of embroidery or decorative needlework done by machine, whether before or after the making of the articles of the description specified above;
|
| | (v) the following processes if done by machine:—thread-drawing, thread-clipping, top-sewing, scalloping, nickelling and paring;
|
| | (vi) all processes of laundering, smoothing, folding, ornamenting, boxing, finishing, warehousing, packing and other similar operations incidental to or appertaining to the making of the articles of the description specified above.
