CLAREGALWAY ABBEY NATIONAL MONUMENT (PROHIBITION OF BURIALS) ORDER, 1938.

CLAREGALWAY ABBEY NATIONAL MONUMENT (PROHIBITION OF BURIALS) ORDER, 1938.

THE COMMISSIONERS OF PUBLIC WORKS IN IRELAND. THE NATIONAL MONUMENTS ACT, 1930 .

WHEREAS WE—THE COMMISSIONERS OF PUBLIC WORKS IN IRELAND—are the duly appointed Guardians of the National Monument known as CLAREGALWAY ABBEY in the Barony of Clare and County of Galway as shown on the attached map which is an Ecclesiastical Building and which is hereinafter referred to as the National Monument.

AND WHEREAS WE—as such Guardians—think it necessary to prohibit the burial of the remains of deceased persons within those portions of the National Monument or within such distance thereof as hereinafter specified.

NOW, THEREFORE, WE—THE COMMISSIONERS OF PUBLIC WORKS IN IRELAND—acting in pursuance of the powers vested in US for that purpose by section 17 of the National Monuments Act 1930 and of all other powers enabling US do hereby ORDER as follows :—

(1) From and after the date hereof no remains of deceased persons shall be interred within that area shown enclosed by the dotted line marked with the letters "A", "B", "C", "D", "E", "F", "G", "H", "I","J","K", "L", "M", "N", "O", and "P" on the map attached hereto which said area comprises those portions of the National Monument known as the " Church ", the " Cloister " and the " Monastic Buildings —East Wing"—together also with a space five feet wide around the North and East sides thereof.

(2) From and after the date hereof no remains of deceased persons shall be interred within that area thirty feet long and eight feet wide bounded on the West side by a wall and gateway of said National Monument and shown on said map enclosed by a dotted line marked with the letters "W", "X", "Y", and "Z".

This ORDER may be cited as THE CLAREGALWAY ABBEY NATIONAL MONUMENT (PROHIBITION OF BURIALS) ORDER, 1938.

GIVEN under our Seal of Office this 27th day of April in the year of Our Lord One Thousand Nine Hundred and Thirty-Eight.
