CONTROL OF IMPORTS (QUOTA No. 37, EIGHTH PERIOD) ORDER 1940.

WHEREAS it is enacted by sub-section (2) of section 6 of the Control of Imports Act, 1934 (No. 12 of 1934), as adapted in consequence of the enactment of the Constitution, that so long as any particular quota order is in force the Government shall, during and not less than one month before the end of every quota period under such quota order, by order—

(a) appoint a period (beginning at the expiration of the said quota period) to be the next quota period under such quota order, and

(b) appoint a specified quantify of goods to which such quota order applies to be the quota for the purposes of the said Act in respect of the said next quota period :

AND WHEREAS by the Control of Imports (Quota No. 37, Seventh Period) Order, 1940 (Statutory Rules and Orders. No. 69 of 1940), the period beginning on the 1st day of April, 1940, and ending on the 30th day of June, 1940, was appointed to be the seventh quota period under the Control of Imports (Quota No. 37) Order, 1937 (Statutory Rules and Orders, No. 288 of 1937) :

AND WHEREAS by the Control of Imports (Quota No. 37) (Amendment) Order, 1939 (Statutory Rules and Orders, No. 295 of 1939), the said Control of Imports (Quota No. 37) Order, 1937, was amended in certain respects :

NOW, the Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by sub-section (2) of section 6 of the Control of Imports Act, 1934 (No. 12 of 1934), as adapted in consequence of the enactment of the Constitution, and of every and any other power them in this behalf enabling, do hereby order as follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Control of Imports (Quota No. 37, Eighth Period) Order, 1940.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

3. The period beginning on the 1st day of July, 1940, and ending on the 31st day of December, 1940, is hereby appointed to be the eighth quota period under the Control of Imports (Quota No. 37) Order, 1937 (which relates to certain hats, caps, hoods and shapes).

4. Eighty thousand articles to which the Control of Imports (Quota No. 37) Order, 1937, applies shall be the quota in respect of the said eighth quota period.
