ROAD TRAFFIC ACT, 1933.

No. 218/1946:

MECHANICALLY PROPELLED VEHICLES (CONSTRUCTION, EQUIPMENT AND USE) (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1946.

MECHANICALLY PROPELLED VEHICLES (CONSTRUCTION, EQUIPMENT AND USE) (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1946.

The Minister for Local Government and Public Health in exercise of the powers vested in him by the Road Traffic Act, 1933 , and in particular by Section 15 of the said Act, hereby makes the following regulations, that is to say :—

1. In these Regulations, the expression " the Principal Order " means the Mechanically Propelled Vehicles (Construction, Equipment, and Use) Order, 1934.

2. The overall length of a vehicle with four wheels shall not exceed 30 feet and article 10 of the Principal Order shall be amended accordingly.

3. The overall width of a heavy motor car shall not exceed 8 feet and article 35 of the Principal Order shall be amended accordingly.

4. The overall width of a trailer (other than a land implement) drawn by a vehicle shall not exceed 8 feet and article 47 of the Principal Order shall be amended accordingly.

5. The sum of the weights transmitted to the road surface by all the wheels of a trailer and of the small tractor or heavy motor car drawing such trailer shall not exceed 25 tons and article 53 of the Principal Order shall be amended accordingly.

6. Subject to the provisions of this regulation the sum of the weights transmitted to the road surface by all the wheels of a heavy motor car shall not exceed :

(a) if the vehicle has more than six wheels, 25 tons ;

(b) if the vehicle has six wheels, 21 tons ;

(c) if the vehicle has four wheels, 15 tons ;

and the weights transmitted to the road surface by any two wheels of a heavy motor car in line transversely shall not exceed :

(a) if the vehicle has four wheels, 10 tons ;

(b) if the vehicle has more than four wheels, 9 tons

and sub-articles (1) and (2) of Article 54 of the Principal Regulations shall be amended accordingly.

7.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Mechanically Propelled Vehicles (Construction, Equipment and Use) (Amendment) Order, 1946.

(2) These Regulations and the Mechanically Propelled Vehicles (Construction, Equipment and Use) Orders, 1934 to 1941 shall be construed as one and may be cited as the Mechanically Propelled Vehicles (Construction, Equipment and Use) Orders, 1934 to 1946.
