I, WILLIAM NORTON, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Article 31 of the Emergency Powers Order, 1939 (S. R. & O. No. 224 of 1939) as amended by the Emergency Powers (No. 173) Order, 1942 (S. R. & O. No. 166 of 1942) (which Orders are continued in force by the Supplies and Services (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1946 (No. 22 of 1946)) hereby order as follows :-- |

1. This Order may be cited as the Motor Spirit (Maximum Prices) Order, 1956. |
||
2. References in this Order to selling shall be construed as including references to agreeing or offering to sell or to inviting an offer to buy. |
||
3. Any fraction of a halfpenny in a price calculated in accordance with the provisions of this Order shall be regarded as one halfpenny. |
||
4. The retail price at which Motor spirit may be sold shall not exceed the cost of the Motor Spirit to the retailer increased by 3½d. per gallon. |
||
5. In this Order the expression " Motor Spirit " means any spirit which consists wholly or partly of hydrocarbon light oils as defined in sub-section (7) of section I of the Finance (Customs Duties) (No. 4) Act, 1931 (No. 43 of 1931), and which is suitable for the propulsion of a motor vehicle but does not include the following brands :-- |

6. The Motor Spirit (Maximum Prices) Order, 1953 ( S.I. No. 40 of 1953 ) is hereby revoked. |
