TELEPHONE (AMENDMENT) (No. 1) REGULATIONS, 1956.

TELEPHONE (AMENDMENT) (No. 1) REGULATIONS, 1956.

The Minister for Posts and Telegraphs, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 2 of the Telegraph Act, 1885 and with the consent of the Minister for Finance as testified by his signature hereto, hereby makes the following Regulations :--

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Telephone (Amendment) (No. 1) Regulations, 1956.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of July, 1956.

3. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937) applies to these Regulations.

4.--(1) In these Regulations " the Principal Regulations " means the Telephone Regulations, 1953 ( S.I. No. 227 of 1953 ).

(2) These Regulations shall be construed as one with the Principal Regulations.

5. Paragraph (1) of Regulation 5 of the Principal Regulations is hereby amended by--

(i) the substitution of " twopence " for " one penny halfpenny " in subparagraph (a), and

(ii) the substitution of " twopence " for " three pence " in subparagraph (b).

6. Regulation 6 of the Principal Regulations is hereby amended by the substitution of " twopence halfpenny " for " fivepence " in subparagraph (b) of paragraph (1).

7. The following Schedule is hereby substituted for the First Schedule to the Principal Regulations :--

" FIRST SCHEDULE.

CHARGES FOR TRUNK CALLS BY A SUBSCRIBER.

PART I.

If the call is to an office connected with an exchange other than the exchange with which the calling subscriber is connected and the call is made at or after 8 a.m. and before 6 p.m.--the sum shown in the following table which is appropriate to the call :--

Distance between the exchanges connected

Calls between any two exchanges in Ireland

Calls between an exchange in Ireland and an exchange in Great Britain, the Isle of Man, or the Channel Islands

PART I.

If the call is to an office connected with the exchange with which the call office or coin box exchange line is connected--three pence.

PART II.

If the call is to an office connected with an exchange other than the exchange with which the call office or coin box exchange line is connected and the call is made at or after 8.0 a.m. and before 6.0 p.m.--the sum shown in the following table which is appropriate to the call :--

Distance between the exchanges connected

Calls between any two exchanges within Ireland

Calls between an exchange in Ireland and an exchange in Great Britain, the Isle of Man, or the Channel Islands

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The purpose of these regulations is to amend the Telephone Regulations, 1953, to provide for revision of local call charges and for increased charges on internal trunk calls and on calls to Great Britain, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.

The principal changes are as follows (existing charges shown in brackets) :--
