S.I. No. 170/1956:

FACTORIES ACT, 1955 (APPLICATION OF SECTION 76 TO CERTAIN DISEASE) REGULATIONS, 1956

FACTORIES ACT, 1955 (APPLICATION OF SECTION 76 TO CERTAIN DISEASE) REGULATIONS, 1956

I, WILLIAM NORTON, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the power conferred on me by section 8 and subsection (6) of section 76 of the Factories Act, 1955 (No. 10 of 1955), after consultation with the Minister for Health, hereby make the following regulations :

1.--(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Factories Act, 1955 (Application of Section 76 to Certain Diseases) Regulations, 1956.

(2) These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of October, 1956.

2. Section 76 of the Factories Act, 1955 (No. 10 of 1955), is hereby applied to the following diseases occurring in a factory :

(a) jaundice due to tetrachlorethane or nitro-or amido-derivatives of benzene or other poisonous substance

(b) epitheliomatous ulceration due to tar, pitch, bitumen, mineral oil or paraffin, or any compound, product or residue of any of these substances,

(c) chrome ulceration, that is, ulceration due to chromic acid or bichromate of potassium, sodium or ammonium or any preparation of these substances,

(d) poisoning by carbon bisulphide,

(e) aniline poisoning,

(f) chronic benzene poisoning,

(g) manganese poisoning,

(h) compressed air illness, and

(i) toxic anaemia.

3. The following Orders made under subsection (4) of section 73 of the Factory and Workshop Act, 1901, are hereby revoked :

(a) the Order made on the 27th day of November, 1915, relating to toxic jaundice, and

(b) the Order made on the 28th day of November, 1919, relating to epitheliomatous and chrome ulceration.
