MOTOR FUEL ORDER, 1956. |

I, WILLIAM NORTON, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Article 31 of the Emergency Powers Order, 1939 (S. R. & O. No. 224 of 1939), as amended by the Emergency Powers (No. 173) Order, 1942 (S. R. & O. No. 166 of 1942), (which Orders are continued in force by the Supplies and Services (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1946 (No. 22 of 1946)), hereby order as follows :-- |

1. This Order may be cited as the Motor Fuel Order, 1956. |
||
2. In this Order-- |
||
" dealer " means a person carrying on the business of supplying motor fuel by retail ; |
||
" motor fuel " means any hydrocarbon oil suitable for use for combustion in a compression ignition or spark ignition engine ; |
||
" motor vehicle " means a mechanically propelled vehicle constructed or adapted for use on roads. |
||
3. Except in accordance with the directions of the Minister for Industry and Commerce, no person shall obtain motor fuel from a dealer and no dealer shall sell motor fuel to any person unless it is placed forthwith into the ordinary fuel tank of a motor vehicle. |

EXPLANATORY NOTE. |
||
This instrument prohibits the sale by, or purchase from, a retail motor fuel dealer of motor spirit or heavy oil otherwise than by direct delivery from the pump to the ordinary fuel tank of the purchaser's motor vehicle. |
||
