MOTOR SPIRIT (MAXIMUM PRICES) ORDER, 1957. |

I, WILLIAM NORTON, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Article 31 of the Emergency Powers Order, 1939 (S. R. & O. No. 224 of 1939) as amended by the Emergency Powers (No. 173) Order, 1942 (S. R. & O. No. 166 of 1942) (which Orders are continued in force by the Supplies and Services (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1946 (No. 22 of 1946)) hereby order as follows :-- |

1.--(1) This Order may be cited as the Motor Spirit (Maximum Prices) Order, 1957. |
||
(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 11th day of March, 1957. |
||
2. References in this Order to selling shall be construed as including references to agreeing or offering to sell or to inviting an offer to buy. |
||
3. No person shall sell motor spirit of any description at a price exceeding the price charged by him for such motor spirit during the week ended 9th March, 1957, when sold under the same conditions. |
||
4. Where a direction is given by the Minister in respect of any particular person or group of persons or in respect of any particular description of motor spirit, the provisions of this Order shall, if and in so far as they are inconsistent with such direction, have effect subject thereto. |
||
5. In this Order the expression " Motor Spirit " means any spirit which consists wholly or partly of hydrocarbon light oils as defined in sub-section (7) of section I of the Finance (Customs Duties) (No. 4) Act, 1931 (No. 43 of 1931), and which is suitable for the propulsion of a motor vehicle. |

EXPLANATORY NOTE |
||
This instrument prohibits any person from selling motor spirit on or after the 11th March, 1957, at a price exceeding the price charged by him during the week ended 9th March, 1957. |
