MERCHANT SHIPPING (RECOGNITION OF AUSTRALIAN CERTIFICATES OF COMPETENCY) ORDER, 1958. |

WHEREAS the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia provide for the holding of examinations for the grant of certificates of competency as masters, first mates or second mates of foreign-going ships, as first class or second class engineers or as first class or second class motor engineers : |

AND WHEREAS the Minister for Industry and Commerce is satisfied that the certificates so granted are granted on such principles as to show qualifications of competency which are adequate qualifications for service in Irish ships : |

NOW, the Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 7 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1947 (No. 46 of 1947), hereby order as follows : |
||
1. This Order may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Recognition of Australian Certificates of Competency) Order, 1958. |
||
2. Certificates of competency as masters, first mates or second mates of foreign-going ships as first class or second class engineers or as first class or second class motor-engineers granted by the authority appropriate for that purpose in the Commonwealth of Australia shall be of the same force within the State as if they had been granted by the Minister for Industry and Commerce under Part II of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1894. |

EXPLANATORY NOTE. |
