TELEPHONE (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1964

I, MICHAEL HILLIARD, Minister for Post and Telegraphs, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 2 of the Telegraph Act, 1885, and with the consent of the Minister for Finance, hereby make the following regulations :--

1.--(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Telephone (Amendment) Regulations, 1964.

(2) The Telephone Regulations, 1959 ( S.I. No. 118 of 1959 ), and these Regulations may be cited together as the Telephone Regulations, 1959 and 1964.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of July, 1964.

3. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to these Regulations.

4. The Telephone Regulations, 1959, shall be amended as follows--

(a) in Regulation 4--

(i) " " external extension " means an extension line other than an internal extension line," is hereby inserted after the definition of " exchange system";

(ii) " " internal extension line " means an extension line wholly within or intended to be wholly within the same office and by means of which two points within the office are connected or are intended to be connected," is hereby inserted after the definition of " fixed-time charge " ;

(iii) " " private manual branch exchange " means wholly manually operated switching apparatus installed or intended to be installed in Subscriber's premises and connected or intended to be connected both to exchange lines and to extension lines, and designed to provide intercommunication between the extension lines and communication between the extension lines and the exchange lines," is hereby inserted after the definition of " personal charge " ;

(b) in subparagraph (a) of paragraph (2) of Regulation 5 " threepence " is hereby substituted for " twopence " ;

(c) in Regulation 18 the following paragraph is hereby inserted after paragraph (2) :

" (2A) The subscriber shall pay, on demand, to the Minister, for the installation, connection for use or provision of equipment specified in the Third Schedule to these Regulations, the charge specified in the said Schedule opposite the mention of the equipment " ;

(d) the following Table is hereby substituted for the Table in the First Schedule :

Calls between exchanges in Ireland and exchanges in Great Britain, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The purpose of these Regulations is to amend the Telephone Regulations, 1959, to provide for the following increases in certain call charges :

Local Calls made from a non-coinbox

Increase from 2d to 3d. exchange line.

Internal Trunk Calls :

(a) Calls obtained through operator

Increase of the 8d and 2s. 0d rates to 9d and 2s. 3d. respectively.

(b) Calls dialled direct by the subscriber

Increase from 2d. to 3d. in the charge for each period of time allowed, the period of time allowed being adjusted roughly pro rata.

These Regulations also set out the connection charges payable in respect of exchange lines, private telephone circuits and various subsidiary items of telephone equipment.
