SOCIAL WELFARE (OLD AGE AND WIDOWS' AND ORPHANS' (CONTRIBUTORY) PENSIONS AND RETIREMENT PENSION) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1971.

SOCIAL WELFARE (OLD AGE AND WIDOWS' AND ORPHANS' (CONTRIBUTORY) PENSIONS AND RETIREMENT PENSION) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1971.

The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 3 of the Social Welfare Act, 1952 (No. 11 of 1952), section 28A of the said Act (inserted therein by section 10 of the Social Welfare (Amendment) Act, 1960 (No. 25 of 1960) and amended by section 6 of the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1966 (No. 24 of 1966)) and section 28B of the said Act (inserted therein by section 10 of the Social Welfare Act, 1970 (No. 12 of 1970)), hereby makes the following Regulations--

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Old Age and Widows' and Orphans' (Contributory) Pensions and Retirement Pensions) (Amendment) Regulations, 1971.

(2) These Regulations in so far as they amend the Social Welfare (Old Age (Contributory) Pension) Regulations, 1960 to 1970, the Social Welfare (Widows' and Orphans' (Contributory) Pensions) Regulations, 1966 to 1970, and the Social Welfare (Retirement Pension) Regulations, 1970 may be cited together therewith as the Social Welfare (Old Age (Contributory) Pension Regulations, 1960 to 1971, the Social Welfare (Widows' and Orphans' (Contributory) Pensions) Regulations, 1966 to 1971 and the Social Welfare (Retirement Pension) Regulations, 1970 and 1971.

2. Articles 3 and 4 of these Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of October, 1971, and article 5 on the 30th day of September, 1971.

3. The following Schedule shall be substituted for the Schedule to the Social Welfare (Old Age (Contributory) Pension) Regulations, 1960 ( S.I. No. 274 of 1960 ) as inserted by article 3 of the Social Welfare (Old Age (Contributory) Pension) (Amendment) Regulations, 1970 ( S.I. No. 229 of 1970 ).

SCHEDULE.

Reduced rates of old age (contributory) pensions where contribution conditions are partially satisfied.
Average number of contributions paid or credited per contribution year in the relevant period. Weekly Rate.

4. The following Schedule shall be substituted for the Schedule to the Social Welfare (Widows' and Orphans' (Contributory) Pensions) Regulations, 1966 ( S.I. No. 235 of 1966 ) as inserted by article 3 of the Social Welfare (Widows' and Orphans' (Contributory) Pensions) (Amendment) Regulations, 1970 ( S.I. No. 233 of 1970 ).

SCHEDULE.

Reduced rates of widows' (contributory) pensions where contribution conditions are partially satisfied.
Average number of contributions paid or credited per contribution pear in the relevant period. Weekly Rate.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The Social Welfare Act, 1971 provides, inter alta, for increases in the maximum rates of old age (contributory), widows' (contributory) and retirement pensions. These Regulations amend the Social Welfare (Old Age (Contributory) Pension) Regulations, 1960 to 1970, the Social Welfare (Widows' and Orphans' (Contributory) Pensions) Regulations, 1966 to 1970 and the Social Welfare (Retirement Pension) Regulations, 1970, which provide for payment of reduced rates of pension where the contribution conditions are partially satisfied.

The reduced rates of old age (contributory) pension are increased to £5·35, £5·20, £5·05 and £4·90 from £4·85, £4·70, £4·55 and £4·40 respectively; these of widows' (contributory) pension to £4·85 £4·75 £4·60 and £4·50 from £4·35, £4·25, £4·10 and £4·00 respectively and these of retirement pension to £4·60, £4·25 and £3·95 from £4·20, £3·90 and £3·60 respectively. The increases take effect from 1st October, 1971 in the case of old age (contributory) and widows' (contributory) pensions and from 30th September, 1971 in the case of retirement pension.
