ROAD TRAFFIC (SIGNS) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1975. |
||
The Minister for Local Government in exercise of the powers vested in him by section 5 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 (No. 24 of 1961) and section 95 of the said Act as amended by section 6 of the Road Traffic Act, 1968 (No. 25 of 1968) hereby makes the following Regulations:-- |
||
1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Signs) (Amendment) Regulations, 1975. |
||
(2) The Road Traffic (Signs) Regulations, 1962 to 1974 and these Regulations shall be construed together as one and may be cited collectively as the Road Traffic (Signs) Regulations, 1962 to 1975. |

2. In these Regulations-- |
||
"the Principal Regulations" means the Road Traffic (Signs) Regulations, 1962 ( S.I. No. 171 of 1962 ). |
||
3. Sub-paragraph (3) of article 13 of the Principal Regulations is hereby amended-- |
||
( a ) by the insertion in sub-paragraph (d) before the word "amber" of the word "non-flashing", and |
||
( b ) by the addition of the following sub-paragraph-- |
||
"( f ) when a lamp shows a flashing amber light it shall signify that the stream of traffic controlled by such signal may proceed past the stop line on the roadway at such signal or beyond such signal if there is no stop line but that every pedestrian crossing the roadway at the said light has the right of way over that traffic and that that traffic shall yield right of way to every such pedestrian". |

4. There shall be substituted for sub-paragraph (b)(ii) of article 14 of the Principal Regulations the following sub-paragraph-- |
||
"(ii) (A) one lamp shall comply with condition (ii) of sub-paragraph (a) of this article and, when non-flashing, shall have the significance specified in that sub-paragraph and when flashing shall indicate that pedestrians, who have commenced to cross the roadway, may continue to cross and that pedestrians, who have not commenced to cross the roadway, shall not commence to cross; |

(B) the other lamp shall show when lit a red light through the full area of the lens (which may contain in black letters a message such as the word "Wait") or a figure of a pedestrian in red on a black ground--indicating that pedestrians shall not cross the roadway." |

EXPLANATORY NOTE |
||
These Regulations amend the Road Traffic (Signs) Regulations, 1962 to 1974. They are designed to deal with a pedestrian crossing place controlled by traffic etc. lights and enable a road authority to introduce flashing amber and green lights at such crossing place. |
