INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH AND STANDARDS (SECTION 44) (HOOD CORDS FOR CHILDREN'S CLOTHING) ORDER, 1976.

INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH AND STANDARDS (SECTION 44) (HOOD CORDS FOR CHILDREN'S CLOTHING) ORDER, 1976.

I, JUSTIN KEATING, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section 44 of the Industrial Research and Standards Act, 1961 (No. 20 of 1961), hereby make the following Order:

1. This Order may be cited as the Industrial Research and Standards (Section 44) Hood Cords for Children's Clothing Order, 1976, and shall come into operation on the 1st day of October, 1976.

2. In this Order "child's outer garment" means a raincoat, overcoat, anorak or other garment, suitable for use as outer wear and having a measurement not exceeding 44 cm across the chest when the finished garment is laid out as flat as possible without distorting its natural two-dimensional shape and buttoned or otherwise fastened as it is designed to be in normal wear.

3. It shall be unlawful to manufacture, assemble or sell a child's outer garment unless it complies with the following condition, namely, that the hood of the garment is not designed to be secured by means of a cord drawn through the material.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The purpose of this Order is to prohibit the manufacture, assembly, or sale of a child's outer garment the hood of which is designed to be secured by means of a cord drawn through the material.
