S.I. No. 194/1976:

CORK TRAFFIC AND PARKING (PEDESTRIANISATION) TEMPORARY RULES, 1976.

CORK TRAFFIC AND PARKING (PEDESTRIANISATION) TEMPORARY RULES, 1976.

I, EDMUND PATRICK GARVEY, Commissioner of the Garda Síochána, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 89 and 90 (as amended by section 6 of the Road Traffic Act, 1968 (No. 25 of 1968)) of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 (No. 24 of 1961), hereby make the following temporary rules in respect of the area comprising the county borough of Cork:--

1. These rules may be cited as the Cork Traffic and Parking (Pedestrianisation) Temporary Rules, 1976.

2. These rules shall come into operation on the 1st day of October, 1976.

3. (1) A person shall not with a vehicle enter a street or portion of a street to which this rule applies or park a vehicle in such a street or portion of street, during the period from 10.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. on any weekday.

(2) This rule applies to each street named, or portion of a street described, at a reference number in the Schedule to these rules, at each entry of which traffic sign number 216 authorised by the Regulations of 1962 (as amended by the Road Traffic (Signs) (Amendment) (No. 3) Regulations, 1971 ( S.I. No. 256 of 1971 ) is erected.

(3) This rule does not apply to--

( a ) any vehicle which is being used in connection with--

(i) the removal of any obstruction to traffic,

(ii) the maintenance, improvement or reconstruction of any street or part of a street,

(iii) the provision, alteration or repair of any sewer or of any main, pipe or apparatus for the supply of gas, water or electricity or any telegraphic or telephonic line, or

( b ) a fire engine or ambulance or any vehicle in the service of the Garda Síochána while being used in pursuance of statutory powers or duties.

(4) In this rule " vehicle " does not include a pedal cycle or motor cycle while being propelled by hand or pushed.

(5) The " Regulations of 1962 " means the Road Traffic (Signs) Regulations, 1962 ( S.I. No. 171 of 1962 ).

(1) Winthrop Street.

(2) Robert Street.

(3) The portion of Cork Street from its junction with Patrick Street to its junction with Oliver Plunkett Street.

(4) The portion of Marlboro Street from its junction with Patrick Street to its junction with Oliver Plunkett Street.

(5) The portion of Princes Street from its junction with Patrick Street to its junction with Oliver Plunkett Street.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

(1) Rule 3 (1) prohibits a person from entering with or parking a vehicle within the pedestrianised streets or portions of streets set out in the Schedule to the rules between 10.30 a.m. and 6.30 p.m. on weekdays.

(2) Rule 3 (3) outlines exceptions to the prohibition at Rule 3 (1) of these Rules.

(3) These rules apply in the area comprising the county borough of Cork.
