EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES (INTRODUCTION OF ORGANISMS HARMFUL TO PLANTS OR PLANT PRODUCTS) (PROHIBITION) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1981.

I, RAY MacSHARRY, Minister for Agriculture, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), and for the purpose of giving effect to the amendment of Council Directive No. 77/93/EEC of 21 December, 1976¹ effected by Article 1 (1) of Council Directive No. 81/7/EEC of 1 January, 1981², hereby make the following regulations:

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Introduction of Organisms Harmful to Plants or Plant Products) (Prohibition) (Amendment) Regulations, 1981.

(2) The European Communities (Introduction of Organisms Harmful to Plants or Plant Products) (Prohibition) Regulations, 1980 ( S.I. No. 125 of 1980 ), and these Regulations may be cited together as the European Communities (Introduction of Organisms Harmful to Plants or Plant Products) (Prohibition) Regulations, 1980 and 1981.

2. During the period beginning on the commencement of these Regulations and ending on the 31st day of December, 1982, Regulation 2 (1) of the European Communities (Introduction of Organisms Harmful to Plants or Plant Products) (Prohibition) Regulations, 1980, shall be construed and have effect as if to the definition of "Member State" contained therein there were added ", other than Greece".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations amend the original Regulations by excluding Greece from the definition of a Member State until 1 January, 1983.
