INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH AND STANDARDS (SECTION 44) (TOXICITY OF PENCILS AND GRAPHIC INSTRUMENTS) ORDER, 1983. |

I, JOHN BRUTON, Minister for Industry and Energy, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section 44 of the Industrial Research and Standards Act, 1961 (No. 20 of 1961), and the Industry and Energy (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order, 1983 ( S.I. No. 21 of 1983 ), hereby make the following Order: |

1. This Order may be cited as the Industrial Research and Standards (Section 44) (Toxicity of Pencils and Graphic Instruments) Order, 1983. |
||
2. It shall be unlawful on or after the 1st day of February, 1984, to manufacture, assemble or sell pencils or graphic instruments unless they comply with Irish Standard 253:1982, being the standard specification for toxicity of pencils and graphic instruments declared by the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards. |

EXPLANATORY NOTE. |
||
The purpose of this Order is to prohibit the manufacture, assembly or sale of pencils and graphic instruments unless they comply with I.S. 253:1982. |
||
The objective of the Order is, in the interests of greater safety, to ensure that certain levels of various toxic substances are not exceeded in pencils and graphic instruments. |
