INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH AND STANDARDS (SECTION 44) (GAS CATALYTIC HEATERS) ORDER, 1984.

INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH AND STANDARDS (SECTION 44) (GAS CATALYTIC HEATERS) ORDER, 1984.

I, JOHN BRUTON, Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section 44 of the Industrial Research and Standards Act, 1961 (No. 20 of 1961), and the Industry (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order, 1983 ( S.I. No. 383 of 1983 ), hereby make the following Order:--

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Industrial Research and Standards (Section 44) (Gas Catalytic Heaters) Order, 1984.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 1st day of June, 1984.

2. In this Order "a gas catalytic heater" means a mobile or fixed heater in which the heat is generated by the action of gas flowing over a catalytic panel.

3. It shall be unlawful to manufacture, assemble or sell a gas catalytic heater in the State unless it complies with the following condition, that is to say, that asbestos is not used in the construction of the catalytic panel in the heater.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The purpose of this Order is to prohibit the manufacture, assembly or sale of a gas catalytic heater intended for sale to the public in which asbestos is used in the construction of the catalytic panel, to prevent the issue of asbestos fibres or dust which could cause a danger to the health of persons in the vicinity of the heater whilst in use.
