BOROUGH OF GALWAY (LOCAL ELECTORAL AREAS) ORDER, 1985.

BOROUGH OF GALWAY (LOCAL ELECTORAL AREAS) ORDER, 1985.

The Minister for the Environment in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 35 of the Local Government Act, 1941 (No. 23 of 1941) as amended by sections 3 and 87 of and the First Schedule to the Electoral Act, 1963 (No. 19 of 1963) and section 20 of the Local Government (Reorganisation) Act, 1985 (No. 7 of 1985), hereby orders as follows:--

1. This Order may be cited as the Borough of Galway (Local Electoral Areas) Order, 1985.

2. The Borough of Galway Local Electoral Areas Order, 1979 ( S.I. No. 45 of 1979 ) is hereby revoked.

3. In this Order, "the Borough" means the Borough of Galway as existing on the commencement of section 19 of the Local Government (Reorganisation) Act, 1985 for the purpose of the local elections next occurring after such commencement.

4. The Borough shall be divided into the local electoral areas set out in the first column of the Schedule to this Order.

5. Each such local electoral area shall consist of the area described in the second column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such local electoral area.

6. The number of members of the Council of the Borough to be elected for each such local electoral area shall be the number set out in the third column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such local electoral area.

7. The number of the said members to be elected for each such local electoral area who are to be aldermen shall be the number set out in the fourth column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such local electoral area.

8. In the Schedule to this Order--

( a ) every reference to a ward shall be costrued as referring to such ward as existing at the date of this Order; and

( b ) a reference to a townland, part of which was in the Borough of Galway as it existed immediately before the commencement of section 19 of the Local Government (Reorganisation) Act, 1985 shall be construed as referring only to the part of such townland which was detached from the County Health District of Galway and added to the Borough of Galway by virtue of section 19(1) of the said Act.

Ballybaan Beg, Ballybaan More, Ballybrit, Castlegar, Coolagh, Glenanail, Menlough, Merlinpark, Murroogh, Parkmore, Rahylin Glebe, Roscam in the district electoral division of Galway Rural.
Number Two The West Ward, and 5 1
the townlands of:--
Ballyburke, Ballymoneen East, Ballymoneen West, Ballynahown East, Barna, Cappagh, Cloonagower, Clybaun, Keeraun, Kimmeenmore, Lenabower, Mincloon, Shanballyduff, Shangort in the district electoral division of Barna; and
Ballyagh, Barnacranny, Bushypark, Dangan Lower, Letteragh, Rahoon, in the district electoral division of Galway Rural.
Number Three The South Ward, and the townlands of Acres Derryloney, Gortnalecka, Knocknacarragh, Pollnarooma West, Rusheen in the district electoral division of Barna. 3 1

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of this Order is to divide the Borough of Galway into three electoral areas for the purposes of local elections and to fix the number of members of the Council of the Borough to be elected for each area and the number of those members who are to be aldermen.
