ROAD VEHICLES (INDEX MARKS) (AMENDMENT) (No.2) REGULATIONS, 1986. |

The Minister for the Environment in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 12 of the Roads Act, 1920, hereby makes the following Regulations: |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Road Vehicles (Index Marks) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations, 1986. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
2. The Road Vehicles (Index Marks) Regulations, 1958 ( S.I. No. 14 of 1958 ) is hereby amended as follows: |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
(a) by insertion in the Schedule immediately below the word "SCHEDULE" of "Part I", |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
(b) by insertion after Part I of the Schedule (as amended by these Regulations), of the following: |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
"PART II |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
(c) by the substitution for article 2 of the following articles: |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
"2. The index mark or marks allotted to any licensing authority for the purpose of sub-article (3) of article 25 of the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations, 1982 ( S.I. No. 311 of 1982 ) shall consist of the letter, or combination or combinations of letters shown opposite the name of the licensing authority in Parts I and II of the Schedule to these Regulations. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
3. For the purpose of sub-article (3) of article 25 of the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations, 1982 ( S.I. No. 311 of 1982 ), the index marks in Part I of the Schedule to these Regulations shall not be assigned to vehicles first registered on or after the 1st day of January, 1987 and the index marks in Part II of the Schedule to these Regulations shall be assigned to vehicles first registered on or after the 1st day of January, 1987.". |

EXPLANATORY NOTE |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
These Regulations assign new index marks to each licensing authority. Only these marks may be used when issuing identification marks in respect of motor vehicles first registered in the State on or after the 1st January, 1987. Index marks used before that date continue to remain in force. |
