I, BRENDAN DALY, Minister for the Marine, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 93 (4) (b) of the Mercantile Marine Act, 1955 (No. 29 of 1955), and the Communications (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order, 1987 ( S.I. No. 91 of 1987 ), hereby make the following order: |

1. This Order may be cited as the Mercantile Marine (Variation of Geographical Limits) (Deck Cargo) Order. 1989. |
||
2. This Order shall come into operation on the 1st of April, 1989. |
||
3. The Geographical limits set out in section 93 (4) (a) of the Mercantile Marine Act, 1955 , are hereby varied by the substitution of the words "any other country anywhere" for the words "the continent of Europe between the River Elbe and Brest". |
||

EXPLANATORY NOTE. |
||
The Order, which comes into operation on the 1st day of April, 1989, effectively abolishes deck cargo dues from that date by extending the geographical limits within which ships are exempt from liability for deck cargo dues, to cover all countries. |
