COURTS (SUPPLEMENTAL PROVISIONS) ACT, 1961 (SECTION 46) ORDER, 1989.

COURTS (SUPPLEMENTAL PROVISIONS) ACT, 1961 (SECTION 46) ORDER, 1989.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 46 (9) of the Courts (Supplemental Provisions) Act, 1961 (No. 39 of 1961) (inserted by section 1 of the Courts (Supplemental Provisions) (Amendment) (No. 2 Act, 1968 (No. 21 of 1968)), as amended by sections 8 and 9 of the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) and Ministerial, Parliamentary and Judicial Offices (Amendment) Act, 1983 (No. 32 of 1983), hereby make the following order:

1. This Order may be cited as the Courts (Supplemental Provisions) Act, 1961 (Section 46) Order, 1989.

2. The annual sums payable by way of remuneration under subsections (1), (2), (3) and (9) (which subsections were inserted by the Courts (Supplemental Provisions) (Amendment) (No. 2) Act, 1968 (No. 21 of 1968)) of section 46 of the Courts (Supplemental Provisions) Act, 1961 (No. 39 of 1961), to the Chief Justice and each ordinary judge of the Supreme Court, the President of the High Court and each ordinary judge of the High Court, the President of the Circuit Court and each ordinary judge of the Circuit Court and the President of the District Court and each other justice of the District Court shall, with effect from the dates specified, be and where appropriate shall be deemed to have been--

To the Chief Justice:

£65,798 with effect from 1st day of July, 1989

£69,767 with effect from 1st day of April, 1990

£72,356 with effect from 1st day of October, 1990

To the President of the High Court:

£57,931 with effect from 1st day of July, 1989

£62,040 with effect from 1st day of April, 1990

£64,927 with effect from 1st day of October, 1990

To each ordinary Judge of the Supreme Court:

£55,032 with effect from 1st day of July, 1989

£59,235 with effect from 1st day of April, 1990

£62,274 with effect from 1st day of October, 1990

To each ordinary Judge of the High Court:

£50,061 with effect from 1st day of July, 1989

£54,313 with effect from 1st day of April, 1990

£57,498 with effect from 1st day of October, 1990

To the President of the Circuit Court:

£50,061 with effect from 1st day of July, 1989

To each ordinary Judge of the Circuit Court:

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order applies to the salaries of the judiciary the balance of the increases recommended in Report No. 30 of the Review Body on Higher Remuneration in the Public Sector, dated 30 November, 1987, which will be phased as follows:--40 per cent with effect from 1st July, 1989, 30 per cent with effect from 1st April, 1990 and 30 per cent with effect from 1st October, 1990. The increases will take account of the general wage increases of 1st January, 1988, 1st January, 1989 and 1st January, 1990 under the terms of the Pay Agreement for the Public Service.
