I, DESMOND O'MALLEY, T.D., Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 7 of the Hallmarking Act, 1981 (No. 18 of 1981), as adapted by the Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism (Alteration of name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1986 ( S.I. No. 41 of 1986 ), and after consultation with the Company referred to in the said Section 7, hereby make the following Regulations:-- |

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Hallmarking (Irish Standards of Fineness) (Amendment) Regulations, 1990. |
||
(2) These Regulations shall come into operation on the 8th day of June, 1990. |
||
2. In these Regulations "the Principal Regulations" means the Hallmarking (Irish Standards of Fineness) Regulations, 1983 ( S.I. No. 328 of 1983 ). |

3. The Principal Regulations and these Regulations may be cited together as the Hallmarking (Irish Standards of Fineness) Regulations, 1983 and 1990. |
||
4. The Principal Regulations are hereby amended by the insertion of the following paragraph after paragraph (a) of Regulation 2: |
||
"( aa ) the standard (which shall be known, and is referred to in these Regulations, as 'the standard of 10 carats') of 417 parts of fine gold in every 1,000 parts by weight of the article, and". |

EXPLANATORY NOTE. |
||
The purpose of these Regulations is to prescribe, for the first time, a standard of fineness of 10 carat for gold articles. |
