S.I. No. 373/1991:

RADIOLOGICAL PROTECTION ACT, 1991 (DESIGNATION OF CONVENTION COUNTRIES) ORDER, 1991.

RADIOLOGICAL PROTECTION ACT, 1991 (DESIGNATION OF CONVENTION COUNTRIES) ORDER, 1991.

I, GERARD COLLINS, Minister for Foreign Affairs, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 35 of the Radiological Protection Act, 1991 (No. 9 of 1991), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Radiological Protection Act, 1991 (Designation of Convention Countries) Order, 1991.

2. The countries specified in the Schedule to this Order are hereby designated as the countries which are parties to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material done at Vienna and New York on 3 March 1980.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This order is made by the power conferred on the Minister for Foreign Affairs under section 35 of the Radiological Protection Act, 1991 . The State is a party to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material and the effect of this order is to designate the other countries which are parties to the Convention. The purpose of the Convention is to facilitate international co-operation in the peaceful application of nuclear energy and to avert the potential dangers posed by the unlawful taking and use of nuclear material.
