MAINTENANCE ACT, 1994 (DESIGNATED JURISDICTIONS) (UNITED STATES OF AMERICA) ORDER, 1996. |

WHEREAS Part III of the Maintenance Act, 1994 , enables effect to be given to the Convention on the recovery abroad of maintenance done at New York on the 20th day of June, 1956: |
||
AND WHEREAS it is desired to apply the provisions of that Part to facilitate the recovery by persons for the time being residing in a constituent state of the United States of America of maintenance from persons for the time being residing in the State and for the recovery by persons for the time being residing in the State of maintenance from persons for the time being residing in any such constituent state: |

AND WHEREAS section 13 (2) of the Act provides for that purpose that the Minister for Foreign Affairs may by order declare that any state or jurisdiction specified in the order is a designated jurisdiction for the purposes of the said Part III: |
||
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Dick Spring, Minister for Foreign Affairs, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 13 (2) of the Maintenance Act, 1994 (No. 28 of 1994), hereby order as follows: |
||
1. This Order may be cited as the Maintenance Act, 1994 (Designated Jurisdictions) (United States of America) Order, 1996. |
||
2. This Order shall come into operation on the 1st day of May, 1996. |
||
3. Every constituent state of the United States of America is hereby declared to be a designated jurisdiction for the purposes of Part III of the Maintenance Act, 1994 . |
||

EXPLANATORY NOTE |
||
The effect of this Order is to designate as jurisdictions for the purposes of Part III of the Maintenance Act, 1994 , all constituent states of the United States of America. |
