EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES (CEREAL SEED) (AMENDMENT) REGULATION 1997 |

I, Ivan Yates, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), and for the purpose of giving effect to Council Directive No. 96/72 EC of 18 November, 1996 (i) in so far as it relates to cereal seed, hereby make the following Regulations: |

1. (1)These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Cereal Seed) (Amendment) Regulations, 1997, and shall come into operation on the 1 day of July, 1997. |

(2)The collective citation " the European Communities (Cereal Seed) Regulations 1981 to 1997" shall include these Regulations. |

2. In these Regulations-- |
||
"the Principal Regulations" means the European Communities (Cereal Seed) Regulations, 1981 ( S.I. No. 48 of 1981 ). |
||
3. Regulation 2 (4) of the Principal Regulations (which specifies the Directives, Act and Decisions which have amended Council Directive No. 66/402/EEC of 14 June 1966(2) ) shall be construed as if there were included therein reference to Council Directive No. 96/72/EC of 18 November, 1996. |
||
4. Annex IV of the Schedule to the Principal Regulations is hereby amended by the substitution in paragraph A, (a) I of the abbreviation "EC" for the abbreviation "EEC". |
||
5. Remaining stocks of labels bearing the abbreviation "EEC" may continue to be used until 31 December 2001. |
||

Explanatory Note |
||
These regulations amend existing Regulations on the labelling of seed by replacing the abbreviation "EEC" on the said labels with "EC". They further provide that remaining stocks of labels bearing the abbreviation "EEC" may continue to be used until 31 December 2001. |
