HEALTH (ALTERATION OF NAME OF DEPARTMENT AND TITLE OF MINISTER) ORDER, 1997

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 6 (1) of the Ministers and Secretaries (Amendment) Act, 1939 (No. 36 of 1939), hereby order as follows:

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Health (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1997.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 12th day of July, 1997.

2. The name of the Department of State, the present name whereof is, in the Irish language, an Roinn Sláinte and in the English language, the Department of Health, is hereby altered, in the Irish language, to that of an Roinn Sláinte agus Leanaí and in the English language, to that of the Department of Health and Children.

3. The title of the Minister having charge of the Department of State, whose present title is, in the Irish language, an tAire Sláinte and, in the English language, the Minister for Health, is hereby altered, in the Irish language, to that of an tAire Sláinte agus Leanaí' and, in the English language, to that of the Minister for Health and Children.

4. In any enactment--

( a ) references to the Department of Health shall be construed as references to the Department of Health and Children;

( b ) references to the Minister for Health shall be construed as references to the Minister for Health and Children.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order changes the name of the Department of Health to that of the Department of Health and Children and the title of the Minister for Health to that of the Minister for Health and Children.
