LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACT, 1994 (COMMENCEMENT ORDER), 1997

The Minister for the Environment and Local Government in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 1 (9) of the Local Government Act, 1994 (No. 8 of 1994), hereby orders as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Local Government Act, 1994 , (Commencement) Order, 1997.

2. In this Order, "the Act" means the Local Government Act, 1994 (No. 8 of 1994).

3. Section 34 of the Act shall come into operation on the first day of January, 1998.

4. Section 4(1) of and the First Schedule to the Act shall come into operation on the first day of January, 1998 to the extent specified in the Schedule to this Order.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order commences section 34 of the Local Government Act, 1994 (No. 8 of 1994) and section 4(1) of the same Act to the extent specified in the Schedule to this Order with effect from the first day of January, 1998.
