The Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 30 of the Social Welfare Act, 1996 (No. 7 of 1996), hereby orders as follows: |

Citation. | ||
1. This Order may be cited as the Social Welfare Act, 1996 (Section 30) (Commencement) Order, 1998. |
||
Commencement. | ||
2. The 6th day of April, 1998, is hereby appointed as the day on which section 30 of the Social Welfare Act, 1996 (No. 7 of 1996), shall come into operation for the purposes of supplementary welfare allowance payable by virtue of Sections 177, 178 and 179 of Chapter 11 of Part III of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1993 (No. 27 of 1993). |

EXPLANATORY NOTE. |
||
This Order provides that section 30 of the Social Welfare Act, 1996 will come into effect in relation to basic Supplementary Welfare Allowance payments and supplements on 6 April, 1998. |
||
Section 30 provides for regulatory powers under which a person who is dissatisfied with the outcome of an appeal to the Health Board in relation to a claim for Supplementary Welfare Allowance may make a further appeal to the independent Social Welfare Appeals Office. It also provides for a number of consequential amendments to the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1993 . |
