EUROPOL ACT, 1997 (CERTAIN PROVISIONS) (COMMENCEMENT) (NO. 2) ORDER, 1998

I, JOHN O'DONOGHUE, Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 14 (2) of the Europol Act, 1997 (No. 38 of 1997), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Europol Act, 1997 (Certain Provisions) (Commencement) (No. 2) Order, 1998.

2. The 29th day of December, 1998, is hereby fixed as the day on which the following sections of the Europol Act, 1997 (No. 38 of 1997), shall come into operation, namely--

(a) section 2, in so far as it applies to the 1996 Protocol, and

(b) section 10(1).

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order brings into operation the provisions of the Europol Act, 1997 which apply to the 1996 Protocol on the interpretation by the European Court of Justice of the Europol Convention.
