SOCIAL WELFARE ACT, 1999 (SECTIONS 29 & 30) (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER, 2000

The Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 29 and 30 of the Social Welfare Act, 1999 (No. 3 of 1999) , hereby orders as follows:

Citation.

1. This Order may be cited as the Social Welfare Act, 1999 (Sections 29 & 30) (Commencement) Order, 2000.

Commencement.

2. The 14th day of February 2000, is hereby appointed as the day on which sections 29 and 30 of the Social Welfare Act, 1999 (No. 3 of 1999) , shall come into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.)

This Order provides that Sections 29 and 30 of the Social Welfare Act, 1999 will come into effect on the 14th day of February, 2000.

Section 29 provides for a time limit of 21 days for the submission of appeals in relation to social welfare entitlements to the Circuit Court in certain circumstances which is in line with existing arrangements for submission of appeals to the Social Welfare Appeals Office.

Section 30 provides that claims for Supplementary Welfare Allowance from persons whose affairs are being investigated by the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) may be dealt with by officers of the Minister who are Deciding Officers or Investigators and who are already assigned to the CAB to deal with other Social Welfare claims.
