EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.)

This Order provides that Section 25 of the Social Welfare Act, 2001 shall come into effect on the 27th July, 2001.

Section 25 provides for a technical amendment to the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, to provide that where the Collector General initiates a prosecution for offences under the income tax and social welfare codes, a certificate stating that a debt is due and owing, which is offered in evidence, may be signed by an Officer of the Revenue Commissioners rather than the Collector General. This is to reflect similar changes to the Revenue code.
