I, MARY HARNEY, Minister for Health and Children, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 1 of the Health (Amendment) Act, 1994 (No. 11 of 1994), as adapted by the Health (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1997 ( S.I. No. 308 of 1997 ), and as amended by the Irish Medicines Board (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2006 , make thefollowing regulations: |

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Health (Dental Services for Children) (Amendment) Regulations, 2009. |
||
2. In these Regulations the "Act of 1994" means the Health (Amendment) Act, 1994 (No. 11 of 1994) as amended by the Irish Medicines Board (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act of 2006. |

3. Fifteen years of age is specified for the purposes of section 1(1) of the Act of 1994. |
||
4. The following dental health services are specified for the purposes of section 1(1) of the Act of 1994: |
||
(a) a dental health screening service, |
||
(b) a preventive dental treatment service, and |
||
(c) a primary care dental treatment service in respect of defects noted during a screening examination carried out under paragraph (a) of this Regulation. |
||
5. The Health (Dental Services for Children) Regulations, 2000 ( S.I. No. 248 of 2000 ), are amended. |

The effect of amending these Regulations (which extend eligibility for the health board's dental services to children up to the sixteenth birthday) is take account of the amendments made to the Health (Amendment) Act, 1994 (No. 11 of 1994) by the Irish Medicines Board (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act of 2006. |
