I, ALAN SHATTER, Minister for Justice and Equality, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 1 (2) of the Private Security Services Act 2004 (No. 12 of 2004), hereby order as follows: |
||
1. This Order may be cited as the Private Security Services Act 2004 (Commencement) Order 2012. |
||
2. In this Order- |
||
"access control" means the control or recording of access by persons or vehicles to or within premises by means of- |
||
(a) personal identity verification, including by means of biometrics, |
||
(b) vehicle identification, |
||
(c) numerical codes, |
||
(d) alphabetical codes, |
||
(e) access or other card management, or |
||
(f) electronic key management, |
||
or any combination of such means, and includes advice relating to the installation of such equipment or advice relating to the protection of such devices from damage or interference, and |
||
"cctv" means security equipment that consists of electronic or other devices, which through visual images, warns of, monitors or records potential or actual unauthorised entry or misconduct on or in the vicinity of premises where such equipment is situated; |
||
"intruder alarm" means electronic or other devices which warn of an unauthorised presence or of entry or attempted entry on or in the vicinity of premises where such equipment is situated. |

3. The 1st day of October 2012 is fixed as the day on which section 37 (as amended by section 13 of the Civil Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2011 (No. 23 of 2011)) of the Private Security Services Act 2004 (No. 12 of 2004) comes into operation as respects a private security employer or an independent contractor who- |
||
(a) installs, maintains, repairs or services access control security equipment, |
||
(b) installs, maintains, repairs or services cctv security equipment, |
||
(c) maintains, repairs or services intruder alarms. |
||
