Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

"Iris Oifigiúil" of 5th August, 2014.

I, RICHARD BRUTON, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by subsection (5) of section 1 of the Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2014 (No. 29 of 2014), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2014 (Commencement) Order 2014.

2. The 1st day of August 2014 is appointed as the day on which section 8 of the Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2014 (No. 29 of 2014) shall come into operation.

3. The 31st day of October 2014 is appointed as the day on which Parts 1, 2 (other than section 8), 3, 5, 6 and 7of the Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2014 (No. 29 of 2014) shall come into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation)

This Order brings Parts 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7 of the Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2014 (No. 29 of 2014) into operation on 31 October 2014 apart from section 8 (which gives the Minister power to make an order appointing an establishment day for the new Competition and Consumer Protection Commission) which will come into effect on 1 August 2014.

The Act provides for the establishment of the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, the dissolution of the Competition Authority and the National Consumer Agency, the amendment of the laws relating to media mergers and the regulation of certain practices in the grocery goods sector.
