I, ALAN KELLY, Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972) and for the purpose of giving effect to Directive 2000/60/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 October 20001 and Directive 2006/7/EC of 15 February 20062 and Commission Implementing Decision 2011/321/EU of 27 May 20113 , hereby make the following regulations: | ||
Citation | ||
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Bathing Water Quality (Amendment) Regulations 2016. | ||
Interpretation | ||
2. In these Regulations “Principal Regulations” means the Bathing Water Quality Regulations 2008 ( S.I No. 79 of 2008 ). | ||
Amendment of Principal Regulations | ||
3. The Principal Regulations are amended— | ||
(a) in Regulation 18(1), by substituting for subparagraph (a) the following: | ||
“(a) the current bathing water classification and any prohibition or advice against bathing referred to in this Regulation by means of a clear and simple sign or symbol, such sign or symbol to be used— | ||
(i) in the case of any prohibition or advice against bathing, as set out in Schedule 7 to these Regulations; | ||
(ii) in the case of current bathing water classification, as set out in Schedule 8 to these Regulations.” | ||
and | ||
(b) by inserting the following Schedules after Schedule 6: | ||

EXPLANATORY NOTE. | ||
(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation). | ||
These Regulations implement Commission Implementing Decision 2011/321/EU establishing, pursuant to Directive 2006/7, symbols for providing information to the public on bathing water classification and any bathing prohibition or advice against bathing. | ||
The Regulation gives further effect to Directive 2006/7/EC of 15 February 2006, on the quality of bathing waters and amends Statutory Instrument No. 79 of 2008. | ||
