I, SIMON COVENEY, Minister for Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by subsections (1A)(b) and (1A)(c) of section 3 of the Water Services Act 2014 (as inserted by Section 2 of the Water Services (Amendment) Act 2016 ) and consequent on having duly received a request from the Committee pursuant to subsection (1A)(b) of Section 3 order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Water Services Act 2014 (Extension of Suspension of Domestic Water Charges) Order 2017.

2. The first-mentioned period as prescribed in subsection (1A)(a) of Section 3 of the Water Services Act 2014 (as inserted by Section 2 of the Water Services (Amendment) Act 2016 ) is hereby extended to 31 July 2017.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order provides for the extension of the suspension of domestic water charges for a period of four months to 31 July 2017, pursuant to a request from the Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Future Funding of Domestic Water Services under Section 3 (1A)(b) of the Water Services Act 2014 (as inserted by Section 2 of the Water Services (Amendment) Act 2016 ) for an extension of time in order for it to complete its deliberations and report to the Oireachtas and for the Government to consider its recommendations.
