Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in | ||
“Iris Oifigiúil” of 4th April, 2017. | ||
I, SHANE ROSS, Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 1 (2) of the Road Traffic Act 2016 (No. 21 of 2016), hereby order as follows: | ||
1. This Order may be cited as the Road Traffic Act 2016 (Commencement) Order 2017. | ||
2. In this Order “Act of 2016” means the Road Traffic Act 2016 (No. 21 of 2016). | ||
3. The 30th day of March 2017 is appointed as the day on which sections 1, 2 and 20 of the Act of 2016 come into operation. | ||
4. The 13th day of April 2017 is appointed as the day on which the following provisions of the Act of 2016 come into operation: | ||
(a) sections 7 to 19; | ||
(b) sections 21 and 22; | ||
(c) sections 32 and 33; | ||
(d) section 37. | ||

EXPLANATORY NOTE | ||
(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.) | ||
This order brings into effect, from 13 April 2017, certain provisions of the Road Traffic Act 2016 , relating to drug driving offences, preliminary drug testing of drivers, and a number of procedural amendments. The Order also gives effect from 30 March 2017 to section 20 of the Act, relating to functions of the Medical Bureau of Road Safety. |
