I, SHANE ROSS, Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 11 (2) of the Vehicle Registration Data (Automated Searching and Exchange) Act 2018 (No. 5 of 2018), hereby order as follows: | ||
1. This Order may be cited as the Vehicle Registration Data (Automated Searching and Exchange) Act 2018 (Commencement) Order 2018. | ||
2. The day appointed as the day on which the Vehicle Registration Data (Automated Searching and Exchange) Act 2018 (No. 5 of 2018) comes into operation is 28 May 2018. | ||

EXPLANATORY NOTE | ||
(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.) | ||
This order brings into effect, from 28 May 2018, the Vehicle Registration Data (Automated Searching and Exchange) Act 2018 , which provides for the sharing of vehicle registration data among EU Member States, Iceland and Norway for the prevention and investigation of criminal offences in accordance with Council Decisions 2008/615/JHA and 2008/616/JHA. |
