I, EAMON RYAN, Minister for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 5 and 11 of the Road Traffic Act 1961 (No. 24 of 1961) and the National Roads and Road Traffic (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order 2002 ( S.I. No. 298 of 2002 ) (as adapted by the Transport, Tourism and Sport (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2020 ( S.I. No. 351 of 2020 )), hereby make the following regulations: | ||
1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Requirement to have Audible Warning Devices on Vehicles) Regulations 2020. | ||
(2) These Regulations come into operation on 1 January 2021. | ||
2. Sub-article (5) of Article 28 of the Road Traffic (Construction, Equipment and Use of Vehicles) Regulations 1963 ( S.I. No. 190 of 1963 ) is amended - | ||
(a) by the substitution of the following definition for the definition of “Irish Coast Guard vehicle”: | ||
“‘Irish Coast Guard vehicle’ means a mechanically propelled vehicle registered by the Irish Coast Guard under section 131 of the Finance Act 1992 (No. 9 of 1992);”, | ||
(b) by the deletion of the definition of “senior manager in the Irish Coast Guard”, and | ||
(c) in the definition of “Marked Military Police vehicle”, by the substitution of “.”for “;”. | ||

These regulations amend the statutory provisions relating to audible warning devices by amending the definition of ‘Irish Coast Guard vehicle’ and deleting the definition of ‘senior manager in the Irish Coast Guard’. |
