Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in | ||
“Iris Oifigiúil” of 19th January, 2021. | ||
Rásaíocht Con Éireann, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Sections 25 and 48 of the Greyhound Industry Act 1958 (No. 12 of 1958), and also by sub-section (3) of section 5 of said 1958 Act, hereby makes the following regulations, that is to say:- | ||
1. These regulations may be cited as the Greyhound Industry (Racing) (Amendment) Regulations, 2021. | ||
2. These regulations and the Greyhound Industry (Racing) Regulations 2007 to 2017 may be cited together as the Greyhound Industry (Racing) Regulations, 2007 to 2021. | ||
3. Article 7 of the Greyhound Industry (Racing) Regulations, 2007 ( S.I. No. 302 of 2007 ), is hereby amended by the substitution of the following sub-article for sub-article 4. | ||
(4) Notwithstanding whether or not such request is made, the Racing Manager, in consultation with the Control Steward, shall consider all entries for such a race or feature event and may on the information available to them classify a greyhound as a Wide or Middle Runner under this regulation for such race or for the first round of such feature event. The Racing Manager shall not alter or add to such classifications for any further round of such feature event except that in a feature event of three or more rounds, he/she may revise them for the second round, in which case the revised classifications shall stand for the remaining round(s). Classifications shall thus not be altered for the final of any feature event.” | ||
4. Article 15 of the Greyhound Industry (Racing) Regulations, 2007 ( S.I. No. 302 of 2007 ), is hereby amended by the substitution of the following article. | ||
15. Where two or more greyhounds registered in the same ownership or in the same partnership are entered for an event with eliminating heats the greyhounds shall not be guarded by the race track executive at any stage of the event and this provision shall additionally apply where one or more greyhounds listed as reserves replace withdrawn greyhounds. | ||
5. These regulations shall come into effect on the 1st day of February 2021. | ||

EXPLANATORY NOTE | ||
(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.) | ||
The effect of these regulations is to amend the Greyhound Industry (Racing) Regulations 2007 to 2017 so as to provide that: | ||
i. the number of rounds in an event with eliminating rounds where a seeding category can be changed is three or more. Seeding categories may be amended after the first round but may not be altered thereafter. | ||
ii. greyhounds registered in the same ownership or in the same partnership which are entered for an event with eliminating heats, will not be guarded at any stage of the event. |
