GREENWICH HOSPITAL ACT 1869 - LONG TITLE

An Act to make better provision respecting Greenwich Hospital, and
the application of the revenues thereof.{1}
[2nd August 1869]
Short title.

GREENWICH HOSPITAL ACT 1869 - SECT 1

1. This Act may be cited as "The Greenwich Hospital Act, 1869"

GREENWICH HOSPITAL ACT 1869 - SECT 3
Admission of invalids, &c. to benefits of hospital.

3. The Admiralty may, under regulations to be from time to time
made by them, admit temporarily or permanently to the benefits of
Greenwich Hospital non-commissioned officers and men of the royal
navy and marines who, although not in receipt of naval pensions,
have been, before or after the passing of this Act, discharged as
invalided for disease or wounds contracted or received in or by the
service of the Crown, or are infirm and helpless.

Transfer of invalids to naval hospital, &c.

4. The Admiralty may, under regulations to be from time to time
made by them, send any non-commissioned officers or men admitted to
the benefits of Greenwich Hospital to a ... hospital or infirmary,
to be there maintained at the expense of Greenwich Hospital.

GREENWICH HOSPITAL ACT 1869 - SECT 5
Power to substitute pensions for maintenance.

5. The Admiralty may, under regulations to be from time to time
made by them, appoint to non-commissioned officers and men admitted
to the benefits of Greenwich Hospital, in lieu of maintaining them
in or at the expense of Greenwich Hospital, such special Greenwich
Hospital pensions as to the Admiralty shall seem fit, according to
the circumstances of each case ....

GREENWICH HOSPITAL ACT 1869 - SECT 6
Approval of regulations.

6. Regulations made by the Admiralty under this Act shall not have
effect unless and until they are approved by Her Majesty in
Council.

GREENWICH HOSPITAL ACT 1869 - SECT 7
Power to permit use of buildings for public purpose.

7. The Admiralty may from time to time permit Greenwich Hospital or
any part thereof, with the appurtenances, to be occupied and used
temporarily for the purposes of the naval service or of any
department of Her Majesty's Government, or for the benefit of
persons engaged or who have been engaged in seafaring pursuits, with
or without requiring a rent, and on such terms respecting repairs
and other matters as the Admiralty think fit; but so that the
whole of the buildings of the hospital and their appurtenances shall
be at all times available for the purposes to which the same would
have been applicable if this section had not been enacted.

GREENWICH HOSPITAL ACT 1869 - SECT 8
Greenwich Hospital income account.

8. Her Majesty's Paymaster General shall continue to keep in his
books the separate account, called the Greenwich Hospital income
account, opened by him under the Greenwich Hospital Act, 1865.

GREENWICH HOSPITAL ACT 1869 - SECT 9
Payments out of Consolidated Fund.

9. There shall be charged on the Consolidated Fund of the United
Kingdom, and from time to time under the direction of the Treasury
carried therefrom to the Greenwich Hospital income account, the
annual sum of four thousand pounds ... which annual sum shall be
carried over in one amount on or before the thirtieth day of
September in each year.

GREENWICH HOSPITAL ACT 1869 - SECT 11
Transfer of naval pensions of men maintained.

11.The naval pensions of such non-commissioned officers and men as
are for the time being maintained in or at the expense of
Greenwich Hospital shall not be paid to them individually, but so
much of the money annually provided and appropriated by Parliament
for naval pensions as would be applicable to the payment of the
naval pensions of those officers and men shall be paid into the
Bank of England under the direction of the Admiralty to the cash
account of Her Majesty's Paymaster General, who shall carry the same
to the Greenwich Hospital income account.
