The Department of the Environment makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Articles 63(5), 81(8) and (9) and 110(2) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1995[1].
Citation, commencement and interpretation
1.
—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Motor Vehicle Testing (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2007 and shall come into operation on 2nd April 2007.
(2) In these Regulations "the principal Regulations" means the Motor Vehicle Testing Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2003[2].
Amendment to regulation 2 (interpretation)

In regulation 2(1) of the principal Regulations after the definition of "light motor vehicle" insert —
"
"maximum gross weight" has the same meaning as in Article 19D of the Order of 1981[3];".
Amendment to regulation 6 (exemptions)
3.
Regulation 6(1) of the principal Regulations is amended as follows—
Amendment to Schedule 1 (fees)

In Schedule 1 to the principal Regulations in paragraph 4(h) for "£122.00" substitute "£126.50".

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations further amend the Motor Vehicle Testing Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2003 by—
(a) amending the exemption from testing for electrically propelled vehicles so that testing is not required for electrically propelled goods vehicles the maximum gross weight of which does not exceed 3500 kg;
(b) granting an exemption from testing for goods vehicles with a maximum gross weight which exceeds 3500 kg; and
(c) increasing the fee payable for a full examination under Article 81 of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1995 for taxis, from £122.00 to £126.50.
