ROAD TRAFFIC AND VEHICLES

The Traffic Signs (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2007

  Made 26th June 2007 
  Coming into operation 8th October 2007 

The Department for Regional Development[1] makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 28(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation (Northern Ireland) Order 1997[2] and now vested in it[3]:

Citation and commencement
     1. These Regulations may be cited as The Traffic Signs (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2007 and shall come into operation on 8th October 2007.

Amendments
     2. —(1) The Traffic Signs Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1997[4] shall be amended as provided by paragraphs (2) to (8).

    (2) In Schedule 1 (warning signs) in diagram 563 in item 3 of the table after the words "13. "Pedestrians crossing"" there shall be inserted the following—

    (3) In Schedule 2 (regulatory signs)—

    (4) In Schedule 4 (other informatory signs)—

    (5) In Schedule 6 (road markings)—

    (6) In Schedule 12 Part I (miscellaneous warning, informatory and regulatory signs for roadworks) after diagram 7001.2 there shall be inserted the diagram and the words specified in and under it specified in Part V of the Schedule.

    (7) In Schedule 16 (permitted variants) —

    (8) In Schedule 17 (illumination requirements) in item 1 in column (2)—

The lower panel may be varied in a similar manner to diagram 661.1, or varied to diagram 660, 660.3, 660.4, 660.5, 660.6, 660.7, 661.2, 661.3, 661A or 662. The sign shown in diagram 638.1 may be added as a middle panel with the size of the legend as shown for diagram 639.1A. A code letter or letters, as shown in diagram 660.3, may be added and may be varied in the same way as indicated in item3 of the table below that diagram

The number of panels in the left hand diagram may be varied. Each panel in the left hand diagram, other than the top panel, shall be in the form shown in the second or third panels from the top. In the third panel from the top, the legend "Permit holders A or" may be omitted. Where the "P" symbol only is shown in the top panel of the left hand diagram, it shall be centred horizontally on the sign. A code letter or letters, as shown in diagram 660.3, may be added and may be varied in the same way as indicated in item 3 of the table below that diagram

(This note is not part of the Regulations)


These Regulations further amend the Traffic Signs Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1997.

The principal amendments are to—

These Regulations have been notified to the European Commission pursuant to Directive 98/34/EC of 22nd June 1998 laying down a procedure for the provision of information in the field of technical standards and regulations and of rules on Information Society Services (O.J. No. L204, 21.07.98, p. 37-48) as amended by Directive 98/48/EC of 20th July 1998 (O.J. No. L217, 05.08.98, p. 18-26).
