The Department of the Environment makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 40 of the Wildlife and Natural Environment Act (Northern Ireland) 2011(1).
1.-(1) This Order may be cited as the Wildlife and Natural Environment (2011 Act) (Commencement No.3) Order (Northern Ireland) 2012.
(2) In this Order "the Act" means the Wildlife and Natural Environment Act (Northern Ireland) 2011.
2.-(1) 30th January 2012 is the day appointed for the coming into operation of section 11 (spring traps) of the Act, for the purpose only of enabling orders to be made by the Department of the Environment under Article 12A(2) or (3) of the Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985(2).
(2) 12th March 2012 is the day appointed for the coming into operation of the following provisions of the Act-
(a)section 11, so far as not already in operation; and
(b)Part 1 of Schedule 3 (repeals: wildlife), so far as it relates to the Welfare of Animals Act (Northern Ireland) 1972 (3).

This Order commences provisions of the Wildlife and Natural Environment Act (Northern Ireland) 2011 ("the Act").
Article 2(1) appoints 30th January 2012 for the coming into operation of section 11 of the Act for the purpose only of enabling the Department of the Environment to approve by order certain traps for the purpose of the destruction of certain wild animals.
Article 2(2) appoints 12th March 2012 for the coming into operation of-
(a)section 11 of the Act, so far as not already commenced by Article 2(1); and
(b)Part 1 of Schedule 3, so far as it repeals section 21 of the Welfare of Animals Act (Northern Ireland) 1972.
(This note is not part of the Order)
The following provisions of the Wildlife and Natural Environment Act (Northern Ireland) 2011 have been brought into operation by earlier commencement orders as from the dates shown.
