1. This Order may be cited as the Superannuation (Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland) Order (Northern Ireland) 2012, and shall come into operation on 14th March 2012.
2. There shall be added to the offices listed in Schedule 1 to the Superannuation (Northern Ireland) Order 1972 with effect from 1st February 2012, the office of Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland(3).

This Order adds the office of Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland to the offices listed in Schedule 1 to the Superannuation (Northern Ireland) Order 1972 for which the Department of Finance and Personnel may make pension schemes.

The office of the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland was established by section 51 of and Schedule 3 to the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 1998 (C.32) as amended by paragraph 39 of Schedule 3 to the Northern Ireland Act 1998 (Devolution of Policing and Justice Functions) Order 2010 (S.I. 2010/976)
