The Department of Justice makes these Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 1(1) and (2)(g) (together with paragraph 7 of Schedule 2), 3(1), (2)(a) and (b) (together with paragraph 9 of Schedule 3) and (3)(a) of the Public Service Pensions Act (Northern Ireland) 2014( 1)(the 2014 Act).
In accordance with section 22 of the 2014 Act, the Department has consulted with the representatives of such persons as appear to the Department likely to be affected by these Regulations.
In accordance with section 3(5)( 2) of the 2014 Act, the Department of Finance has consented to the making of these Regulations.
1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Police Pensions (Amendment No. 2) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2024.
(2) These Regulations come into operation on 1st April 2025.
2. The Police Pensions Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015( 3) are amended in accordance with Regulation 3.
3. In regulation 169 (Rate of member’s contributions) after paragraph (5) omit table and insert—

These Regulations amend the Police Pensions Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015 ( S.R. 2015 No. 113) in order to amend the rates of contributions payable by members of the police pension scheme governed by these Regulations to address a shortfall in employee pension contributions identified by the Government Actuary in the 2020 police pension scheme valuation.
2014 c.2 (N.I.). Section 3(1) was amended by section 94(12) of the Public Service Pensions and Judicial Offices Act 2022.
Departments Act (Northern Ireland) 2016 c.5 (N.I.). Section 1(4) renamed the Department of Finance and Personnel as the Department of Finance.
